STEROID INJECTIONS: BAD MEDICINE
In Dr. Brownstein's October 2019 Blog, he recalls that back in medical school, he was trained to inject steroids into arthritic joints. Three per joint was safe back then and would cause no harm, and did give some relief from pain, except that it was, according to Dr. Brownstein, MD, another wrong thing he was taught in medical school. But in a study in the October 15, 2019 edition of Radiology it looked at data from over 450 patients who received intra-articular steroid injections for osteoarthritis at Boston University. They found steroid joint injections speed up arthritis and worsen joint destruction. The lead author of the study reported that "we are now seeing these [steroid] injections very harmful to the joints with serious complications such as osteonecrosis, subchrondral insufficiency fracture, and rapid progressive osteoarthritis." He cautions us that the first-line therapy of NSAIDs worsen osteoarthritis and cause other health issues like kidney failure and gastrointestinal bleeding. Second-line treatment, for over 30 years, has been steroid injections. Good news- there ARE safer options out there. Ozone injections and acupuncture injection therapy using homeopathics such as Zeel and Traumeel mixed with Spascupreel and Discus Compositum, would be excellent choices for treating a painful, arthritic joint such as a bone-on-bone arthritis arthritic knee.
More information about ozone can be found in Dr. Brownstein's book, Ozone: The Miracle Therapy.
