Chinese medicine is a complete medicine that has diagnosed, treated and prevented illnesses for over 2000 years. While it can remedy ailments and alter states of mind, Chinese medicine can also enhance recuperative power, immunity, and the capacity for pleasure, work, and creativity.

Chinese medicine uses different techniques to help heal the body. These include Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Cupping, Moxibustion, and Food Therapy and QI Gong (or meditation.)

Chinese medicine has its own unique way of looking at how your body works. For example, according to Chinese medicine, there is an energy called Qi that circulates around your body to keep you warm, stop the disease entering your body and promotes the functions of your vital organs.

Pure Acupuncture & Natural Medicine offers the following services:

Effect of diet and change of lifestyle on recovery:

Your diet certainly makes a difference to your health. Every food that you eat has a certain property according to Chinese medicine. For example, if you have pain in your body that gets worse during cold days, it is not advisable for you to eat cold refrigerated food and drinks as well as uncooked foods. You are better off with warm dishes with some ginger or cinnamon. The food that you eat can also be viewed as part of the treatment. This is called food therapy. We will be able to tell you what foods you should stay away from and which ones you should have more of by figuring out, during consultation, exactly where the disharmony in your body is coming from.

Change of lifestyle is very important as most conditions that people present with are more often than not due to stress, improper diet and improper sleeping patterns etc. If this is the case, then no matter what treatment you receive, it will only be temporary as the cause of the problem is not being addressed.

The Consultation

The consultation involves asking you about your health condition. It may also involve palpating different parts of your body to identify which meridians are involved and palpating your pulse and looking at your tongue to figure out the current status of your vital organs, flow of Qi and Blood and what and where the disease is taking place in your body.

After we work out your Chinese medicine diagnosis we then formulate the most suitable treatment plan specifically for your condition and constitution. This may include using acupuncture only or Chinese herbal medicine only or both.

The consultation includes any treatment you might need (if you need Chinese herbal prescription, it is extra).

Back to Services

According to Chinese medicine principles, your whole body is covered with a mesh of invisible network, called Meridians where Qi (vital energy) and blood flow to supply different parts of your body. Whenever the flow of Qi and blood in your body gets altered, this is when you become sick. Acupuncture points in the body are like the windows of these networks where we can tap in and restore the flow of Qi and blood to bring back the balance in your body. These "windows" are tapped into by inserting acupuncture needles through the skin and manipulating the flow of Qi and blood to influence the internal organs. Acupuncture is used in the treatment of a variety of conditions. It is not only used for aches and pains but can treat conditions such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, depression, anxiety and stress, common cold, cough, eczema and other skin conditions, period pain, infertility in men and women, as well as weight management, etc.

In Pure Acupuncture & Natural Medicine all the needles used are sterile single-use needles only.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

No, acupuncture does not hurt. There is what we call a "needling sensation", which most of our patients describe the sensation as a tingling, warming, tightening or a heavy feeling. These sensations indicate the start of the restoration of the circulation of Qi and Blood and the beginning of the healing process.

Does acupuncture have any side effects?

Acupuncture does not have any direct side effects. There are some rare cases where someone can feel a bit light headed after acupuncture but it resolves within one minute. Also a very relaxing and calming sensation is very common after each treatment.
Laser Acupuncture

In our clinic, Laser Acupuncture is used mainly for patients who have needle "phobia" and cannot have acupuncture using needles. Laser acupuncture works by passing a therapeutic laser beam through the skin to stimulate acupuncture points without actually using needles. Most commonly used for the treatment of pain that is very much localized. Conditions such as Tennis elbow, shoulder pain, neck pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome respond well to Laser acupuncture. Also used for Facial Rejuvenation in conjunction with cosmetic acupuncture, facial acupressure and facial gua sha to address puffy eye bags and dark circles under the eyes.

Electro-Acupuncture treatment involves the use of a device which is connected to the needles to provide a small electrical current through the muscles, this small current promotes greater stimulation of the muscle groups involved and also greater stimulation of the meridians targeted by the acupuncture points. Electro-acupuncture is best used for chronic and acute pain especially if accompanied by muscular tension and stiffness. Works well in the treatment of lower back pain, tennis elbow, heel spur, ankle sprains, etc.

Moxibustion is where a herb (Mugwort) is rolled up into a cone, applied on the skin or needle and is lit up to provide heat to the acupuncture point, meridian and organ. Heat applied on the skin is called direct moxabustion where as moxa applied on the end of the needle is called needle moxibustion or warm needling. Another alternative is the use of a moxa stick whereby the stick is lit up and held a few millimetres away from the skin to provide heat. This creates a nice warm feeling around the area. Moxibustion is mainly used for swelling or conditions that become worsened by cold. Provides great relief for arthritis, RSI, muscular sprains and strains, as well as abdominal pain with diarrhea and oedema(swelling).
